Hello,
I'm writing to thank you for the excellent Jack the
Ripper Tour we did last night (03/11/09). Our guide,
Jenny, was great and knew so much! I was amazed she
remembered it all too, as there was a lot
of information.
I had thought of doing a ghost walk for ages and
on seeing your website, decided to organise an
outing with 15 other work colleagues on this tour.
I'm really glad we chose this walk as we all really
enjoyed it!
I will be recommending you to friends and
colleagues!
Many thanks,
Sarah & friends

Dear Joanne,
Just thought I would drop you a few lines to say
thanks for the walk last night October 3rd 2009 – I
think the whole group really enjoyed the walk and I
personally thought it was great!
Please pass on our thanks to Heather, she was a
fantastic tour guide and we’re definitely going to
have a think about other walks we’d like to do in
London for spring 2010!
Thanks again
Caroline

Hi
My friends and I recently went on the tour and had
a great time. We really enjoyed the sights and the
information from our guide Jenny was excellent.
Please pass on our thanks to her, for making it
very interesting, informative and enjoyable.
Thanks and regards

We recently took the tour
[Monday 28th September 2009] through Whitechapel and loved it.
We’re both have a morbid curiosity with serial killers but are also notoriously difficult to please and we were kept enthralled from start to finish.
The tour guide, Jenny, was very well informed, occasionally witty and obviously enjoyed what she was doing.
Her conjecture on the subject added to the tour as a whole.
We even sneaked off for a quick beer, mid tour at the Ten Bells pub – an old haunt of the prostitutes - as we were getting into it that much. We would also recommend that you eat first as it took just over 2 hours and we were starving by the end of it. £7 well spent, we loved it.

Hi there,
Last Wednesday [16th September 2009] a colleague and I joined a Jack the Ripper Walk together with our group of students.
Unfortunately I’ve forgotten the guide’s name [Mark Ubsdell] but anyway I’d like to tell you that we had a very great evening.
The guide was absolutely committed to what he was telling us!
The students told us afterwards that they had found him really inspiring to listen to and they told us that he spoke so well that they had understood everything he said!
It really was a great night in the footsteps of the Ripper!
Many kind regards

I will definitely be recommending your tour.

Hi
We have just been on the tour
Our guide was exceptionally knowledgeable and took good care of us.
Really good value for money. However it would have been an asset to receive a set of the handouts to take away. I realise

Hi
I would just like to pass on my thanks to your Tour
Guide [Lindsay Siviter]
for the magnificent tour she conducted on
Tuesday 18th August. My wife is a 'Ripper enthusiast' and has always
wanted to go on a 'Ripper Tour' and it was a rather strange birthday
request, and she hasn't stopped talking about since!!
Once again, many thanks for making my wife's birthday so special!!
Kind regards

Hi,
I just wanted to let you know how much my partner and I enjoyed our Jack the Ripper tour last Thursday 6 August 2009. The weather was absolutely atrocious, it rained stair rods but to us it just added to the atmosphere.
Philip, our guide, was brilliant! Just the right balance of drama and humour, he made the whole experience very enjoyable and atmospheric.
The tour was well organised and very informative, we have read and watched lots about the Ripper over the years but learned much more last week - and the experience of being there was better than we had hoped.
Even though there were several other groups touring we felt as if we were the only ones there and we got all the best spots anyway, thanks Philip! Hope you dried out ok.
We are going to re read our Jack the Ripper book ( and buy Philip's ) as now we have visited the sites it feels more real.

Hi
Just wanted to send a brief note to say how much my girlfriend and I enjoyed our Jack The Ripper tour last Friday [5th June 2009].
I didn't catch the guides name [Jenny Philips] but we found her to be very very knowledgeable and made the tour very interesting despite the damp and cold evening !! We would/already have recommended you to our friends .....

Hi
Would you please pass on our thanks to Fiona Atherton and John Bennett who we had the pleasure of meeting on our Jack the Ripper Coursework Tour on Wednesday 3rd June 2009
We have completed this walk on a number of occasions in the past with a different company and this was much better than any of them. This walk exceeded all our expectations after the previous visits when we have been left disappointed. The relevance to the coursework was excellent and the talk was very informative and interesting. The students were all very motivated and enthusiastic on our journey home and we are looking forward to using their new found knowledge in our Jack the Ripper work.
Thank you again and looking forward to our next tour.

Hello,
We've just got back to our hotel after our Jack the Ripper tour
People are always quick to complain about things, but don't often take the time to say thank you when things go well.
We loved the tour and will definitely be recommending you!!
Many thanks again,

My husband, my mother and I attended the Jack-the-Ripper tour on Saturday
evening
[23rd May 2009].
I would just like to take this opportunity
to say how delighted we were with the tour and the tour guide.
We weren't expecting such attention to detail and personal responses. Our tour guide (I cannot remember her name, but she is a lady with short blonde hair and pollen allergies!) [Jenny Phillips] was the best we've had on this type of tour.
Not only did she do an excellent job on the tour, but she also made sure we got into the station and that the trains were operating afterwards.
Thank you very much for a fabulous evening. We are definitely going to book
another tour later this year.

I was on the May 12th Jack the Ripper Tour with Richard Jones and I have to tell you that it was the highlight of my trip to the British Isles. Not only was Richard incredibly informed about the Ripper, but the insight that I got into what London's East End was like in the 1880's was amazing.
As soon as I got home I got a copy of the People of the Abyss by Jack London and after having been on Richard's tour, I found this very interesting.
I will recommend this tour to any and all friends going to London.

During the recent snowstorms that battered London in February 2009 several of our clients found themselves unable to make their booked tours because of the adverse weather conditions. Several of them tried valiantly to reach us but found themselves unable to do so. They therefore phoned us and we were happy to either refund them or else transfer them to another night. This is part of our commitment to providing the best Jack the Ripper Tour experience in London. We understand that things can go wrong at the last minute - people get taken ill, trains are cancelled. We provide an emergency manned phone number at the time of booking and just ask people to call us if they encounter any difficulties, delays, or if for any reason cannot make the tour. We handle all calls in a friendly, understanding manner and have been only to happy to transfer people to another night when they have called us.
Below are emails from two people whose bookings we transferred.
Joanne
First off might I thank you so very much for transferring our booking at such short notice, we never expected that and your understanding and willingness to help was much appreciated.
We went on the tour last night
[19th March 2009] and our guide was Phillip. I have to say he was terrific. He really grabbed our attention and made the streets come alive. To say he exceeded our expectations would be understatement. It was also nice to be part of a small group (especially when we passed those enormous groups where the message was found on the wall I could see the people at the back looking at us with envy!) we really felt part of a far more professional tour and the photographs really did help bring back what the area was like in Jack's day.
I have raved about you to my work colleagues and you will be getting a few of them on your tour.
All Good Wishes
Jenny Maclagen.

I would just like to thank you for a brilliant walk and a really excellent guide on Saturday night
[21st February 2009] for the Jack The Ripper walk. Our guide was incredibly informative and interactive with us and I really enjoyed it – despite the underground trying to make it as difficult as possible to attend! I just wish he had had more books to sell at the end of the talk, something we would all liked to have had. Please pass my thanks on to him…I do not know his name [Philip Hutchinson] but he is an actor and has lectured on Jack the Ripper in the USA…he was great!!
I would be very interested in knowing if you do other London walks, as I especially liked the fact that our group was not enormous and therefore I could hear and interact better which I think with a large group would not have been so successful an evening.
Many thanks

On 4th and 5th February 2009 Richard was in Toulouse to talk to the students at the International School about the history of Jack the Ripper. The students were absolutely charming and Richard would like to thank the staff and in particular Russell Tarr for making him so welcome.
Below is a testimonial that Russell sent recently.
Richard,
Just a quick message
to thank you again
for providing the
students and I with
such a brilliant day
yesterday. After
you'd left Liz
Meagher (the head of
secondary) said that
you had a "voice I
could listen to all
day"; I had a chance
to talk with several
of the students and
they were genuinely
enthused by the
whole experience of
meeting you and
hearing your ideas.
The fact that you
were able to hold
their attention for
a solid hour first
thing in the morning
especially is pretty
incredible!
Anyway, I just
wanted to say
properly how much I
appreciate the fact
that you took so
much effort and time
to share your
expertise with us
all - the day itself
was predictably
hectic and we could
easily have
justified taking the
students off
timetable for
another couple of
hours.
If
there's anything I
can do in return for
you in terms of
advertising your
materials / writing
a testimonial or so
on, please don't
hesitate to ask. And
if you would be
willing to consider
visiting us again
next year I'd be
absolutely delighted
to welcome you back
(I could even change
the shape of the
years' studies so
that the Ripper unit
takes place when
it's a little
warmer!).
Many thanks again,

Hello Joanne,
Just like to say thanks for the tours
[23rd and 24th January 2009] whilst we were in London. The guides [Philip Hutchinson and Kathy Trevelyan] were very knowledgeable and pitched the talks at the right level for our students. The balance between information and entertainment was just right. The tours were very informative, safe and enjoyable. In addition, your company was a pleasure to deal with and we will use you next year when we will visit London again.
Please pass on our thanks to the guides and feel free to use our name in any of your publicity.
Thanks for everything

Richard
Was on your walk last night
[21st November 2008] on what was a freezing night ( I thought my fingers were going to drop off!) Can I just say on behalf of my colleagues what a great walk you gave. Your knowledge on the subject was impressive and you showed us parts of London we would never have seen otherwise. But best of all, you kept us enthralled, gripped and entertained for almost two hours in the freezing cold and that in my book was priceless.
All the best

Hi Joanne
Could you pass on our thanks to Richard for the wonderful walk he gave us last night.
[19th November 2008] He was knowledgeable and entertaining and the relaxed pace was much appreciated by the more 'senior' members of our party. It was great to see copies of the new documents that have been revealed this week, we felt like we were investigating the case ourselves.
Thanks

Dear Richard
Just wanted to say what a great night you gave us last night
[9th November 1888]. I was particularly impressed by the way you were able to field the questions about Thomas Cutbush and why he wasn't Jack the Ripper. I had booked the tour because it was an anniversary night and it was quite moving to be standing so close to the site of Mary Kelly's Murder. As a student of the ripper killings myself I was so pleased that you dismissed as utter rubbish the Freemason theories and the Masonic involvement in the ripper killings. I must say it does anger me when I hear this silly theory presented over and over again as actual fact. Well done for pointing out that different police officers reported different spellings for the graffito in Goulston Street. Your tour was very well balanced and your grasp of the history of the area was second to none. So despite the wet start to our night, we had a great time in your company so thanks for being so erudite and enthusiastic.
On another note, your new book arrived today from amazon. I have to say it is a great production, very well put together and written and the pull out documents are a brilliant idea. Could you let me know when you are next doing a tour so I can get you to sign it for me?
Sincerely.
Scott Bewick.

Hello Richard
Thanks for signing my copy of your new book on our Jack the Ripper walk last night. [1st November 2008]. I have to say that the book is great and I love being able to handle and study all the pull out documents to do with the case. Despite the rain the walk was thoroughly enjoyable ( in fact the rain made it even creepier). My friends all commented on your enthusiasm and on how well you know the story. I found it a great thrill being able to follow the topics you were telling us about in The Jack the Ripper Casebook.
Cheers

Dear Ripper folks
Thanks for a great evening on the walk Halloween. Our guide [Phil Cookson] really gave us a good grounding in the case and all my group agreed that it was a well presented evening that didn't dwell on the gore of the case but rather let us see what it was like around there in the 19th century.
Once again thanks.

Could you say a big thank you to Lindsay who was our guide on last nights Jack the Ripper Tour.

Best Wishes

Morning Joanne,
First of all could you please give Kathy a big thank you from my self and all the people she took on the walk last night [28th October 2008]. The weather was the worst all year, but we soldiered on despite it and we all found the talk most informative on the tour of the streets of London.
Again thank you for a great night.

Hiya Joanne
Thanks for switching my booking from the other night at such short notice, your understanding was most appreciated. I have to say that the tour we did tonight
[21st October 2008] was out of this world. It really did give us the an insight into that part of London at the time of the ripper. Your guide [Heather Davies] was a credit to your company and my wife and I found her engaging from the start. All in all the night was a real treat and the courteous and professional way you run your operation (such as changing our booking with less than 20 minutes to go which to us made a huge difference) means I have no hesitation in recommending your tour.
Thanks again.

To Richard the Ripper guide.
Dear Richard
Can I on behalf of my friends and myself say a big thank you to you for the excellent and informative night you provided for us last night.
[16th October 2008].
Having done several other Jack the Ripper tours might I say it was a real treat to be taken round by the master! Your knowledge on the case and the history of the area was second to none. You presented your subject with passion and enthusiasm. I bought your book and your dvd before we left for our vacation so it was a particular thrill when it turned out you were our guide. To stand on the sites of the murders and hear the story told so well was an extremely moving experience and your comments about the big church we passed really did make me think how close to our own time it was when these women lived such terribly sad lives. You brought it all across to us and I have to say you are one of the best story tellers it has ever been my pleasure to have been toured by.
Let me know when your new book is out as I'll be sure to buy a copy.
Al the very best.

Greetings
What a great tour we got last Wednesday [8th October 2008]. Your guide [Mark Ubsdell] pitched it just right with a real good mix of history and drama. I was very intrigued by that first alley we went in to and would like to go back there at the weekend and photograph it when its light. Could you give me directions? [It was Gunthorpe Street just of Whitechapel High Street. Turn left out of the Toynbee Hall Exit of Aldgate East and walk down until you reach the White Hart Pub. Gunthorpe Street is through the arch on the left directly after the pub.]
Anyway please pass on my thanks to the guide and I heartily recommend your tour.

Went on the tour on Friday 3rd October as a birthday treat! Your guide Lindsey was really cool and her knowledge was outstanding. Could you tell her how much we enjoyed it and thank her for taking the time to hang around and chat about my Dad's theory after the walk was finished. Tell her I was the one with the shiny pink bag that everyone was taking the mick out of.
It was a great night and really made my birthday even if people kept saying I had Jack the Rippers pink bag!

Hi Richard
Just wanted to pass on my thanks to you for the Jack the Ripper tour you gave us the other night. [23rd September 2008]
As someone who has had more than a passing interest in the case for the past 15 years I must say I found your knowledge of the subject and of the history of the area impressive. I was particularly relieved that you didn't go for the sensationalist nonsense with which this case is top heavy! I was also pleased that you agreed with my own theory that the Masonic conspiracy and Druitt as a suspect are way off the mark. As you said Druitt simply committed suicide at a time that suited Mcnaghten's theory.
Thanks for the DVD as well. I have watched it and I agree with all the positive feedback that this is indeed one of the best, if not the best, of the JTR documentaries.
Keep up the good work and I would heartily recommend your tour to anybody with a passing interest in the Jack the Ripper case.
Best Wishes
Peter Halkin.

Good morning Joanne,

Kind regards

We took your Jack the Ripper tour last night [8th September 2008] and had the good fortune to have Jenny Philips as our guide. The whole evening was brilliant. She really knows here stuff and really enlightened us about the history of the murders and about the horrible conditions under which the people lived when Jack was on the prowl.
I have to say it really spooked me to find out it was an anniversary night and to see the spot where one of the victims died on the day it happened gave be goosebumbs!!!!

Hi Richard
Just wanted to say thank you for a great Jack the Ripper Tour last night
{20th August 2008}. You really helped bring the story to life and your enthusiasm was evident right from the start. To Jenny Philips, our guide on
the 7th August 2008. Her tour was excellent in every
respect. Not only did she have a immense knowledge
of the subject; she also brought the past vividly to
life with every step! I was also deeply moved by the
respectful way in which she referred to the murder
victims, explaining how their desperate
circumstances led them into the path of the
"Ripper". My partner, who has been a professional
guide/ Education Officer with The National Trust
forScotland for over ten years, was equally
impressed and has asked me to convey his thanks for
a truly unforgettable evening. I cannot commend this
tour highly enough !

Just wanted to express my thanks to Philip who took us on an excellent Jack the Ripper walk on 24th July. He really was a true showman whose exuberance and character truly brought the streets of Victorian London and the Jack the Ripper story to life. I was most impressed with his patience in answering all the questions that we had and his willingness to stay behind and discuss my pet theory at the end of the tour.
I will most certainly be telling all my friends to take your your.

I had been looking forward to this tour for many
months prior to my trip to London! I had perused through many other
"Jack the Ripper" tour sites, but this
one was extremely informative, even before arriving to our meeting
place!
The weather was warm, even for a London spring evening. I took the
advice of the website to bring a jacket and wear good walking shoes.
Although, it didn't rain on our particular evening, it ended up getting
quite chilly by the end of the walk, so I was thankful I had my jacket
with me!
Our tour guide for the evening, a Ms. Jenny Phillips was absolutely
fantastic in her information and explanation of the situation regarding
the murders! Our group contained approximately 25-30 people, and when
she stopped at a certain locale, she was loud enough for all to hear.
She even stopped many times to ask our group if they had any questions
for her, and to offer opinions of her thoughts about who was Jack the
Ripper! She even used herself as a example of the heights of some of the
women!
The tour lasted approximately 2 1/2 hours, and we did a LOT of walking!
But to understand the situation fully, to see the photographs that Ms.
Phillips brought with her (including diagrams of the locations at that
time), and to see the locations as they are now, (even small, dark
alleyways!) was absolutely a tour NOT to be missed! (She even suggested
a wonderful curry restaurant at the end to those of us who had not yet
eaten that evening!)
I highly suggest this tour, as well as Ms. Jenny Phillips as your tour
guide! Definitely book well in advance, bring a jacket and umbrella, as
well as good walking shoes and a bottle of water with you! (Since the
walk starts in the evening, it does get dark, and there are several
cobblestone streets and curbs to watch out for.)
If you have any reservations about going, know that this is definitely
the tour to go on! Groups are small, the tour guide is fantastic and you
can hear everything being said!
Thanks again to Ms. Phillips in all her efforts that evening! My friend
and I had a WONDERFUL time!!

Keep up the good work and please pass on my thanks and appreciation to the guide.

Thanks again for a fantastic tour yesterday. [10th July 2008] The guides were very professional and understanding despite the fact that we were running late. Many of the students expressed the fact that they had learnt new information for their coursework and had a thoroughly enjoyable day.

Hi Joanne & Richard,
Just a quick e-mail to say what a superb Jack the Ripper walk we had with you recently, it was the best walk Monarch social club have been on. We have had a few walks in the east end of London but none matched the excitement we had when on your walk. Richard, you brought the walk to life and for a while our imagination took us back to the smoke filled cold dark nights of the east end during 1888.
Can’t wait to book again to allow other members to experience part of London’s History. By far the best evening we have had for a long time, recommend your tours to anyone.
Keep it up.
Regards,
Chris Warren (Monarch Airlines social Club).

Can I ask you to pass on our sincere thanks to Mark who did an exceptional Jack the Ripper Walk for us on 5th June 2008. We found him an enjoyable host and his obvious knowledge about the subject really shone through. He has really inspired us to want to know more about not just the ripper murders but also about the social history of the period.

Hi
Just wanted to say a big thank you for a brilliant Jack The
Ripper tour last Tuesday evening. Our lady guide (I'm
sorry I didn't get her name -
[Jenny Philips]) was excellent -
she really knows her stuff. I took my 13 year old and 19
year old girls and they thoroughly enjoyed it.
I mentioned to the guide at the end that I understand Johnny
Depp has a fascination of the subject and maybe you should try
to get him along to one of the tours. However, I did add
that if you are successful could you please include me on the
tour!!
Thank you again - I will be recommending this tour to friends
and family when they visit London.
Kind regards
Judy Rowe (Cornwall)

We were lucky enough to get Philip for our May 3
tour and it turned out to be much better than expected. I can't remember
how much fact and fiction I've read about Jack the Ripper over the
years, but he managed to bring new credibility and great atmosphere to
the tour (despite the fact that, due to the time of year, it was broad
daylight the whole time.)
You really deliver a high quality experience for
the money.

This

you're saying, you're a credit to your company.

Sir / Madam,
I would like express my gratitude for an excellent tour last night (18 Apr 08). The guide [Jenny Philips] really brought the gruesome story of Jack the Ripper to life. Her depth of knowledge demonstrated her professionalism and dedication to researching the subject. The party I was with were all very impressed, especially when the boss was singled out for wearing a coat, the like of which, could have been worn by Jack when he went about his dastardly deeds. It is now called his ripper coat.
Again many thanks for a great evening.

Hi
We want to book a private group tour for Sunday 31/08/2008 and I would like to request Jenny Phillips be our guide. If Jenny is not available, maybe we can have Richard Jones as our guide. We took a tour with Jenny in December and loved her. That was actually our third tour in a week -- we tried two other companies first and were not impressed at all and had just about given up on having a tour as part of our celebration. I have to say you guys are by far the best. I was very impressed with how Jenny kept us entertained and interested despite the cold weather and after we had already been on 2 other tours that week -- that really says something about her abilities.
Thank you,
Patricia Johnson. N. J. USA

Hi Joanne,
We went on the tour on Monday [14th April 2008] and it was great. Did not catch the narrators name [Jenny Philips] but she was really great. Would have been even better if the City of London would have conserved those places of the Murder. But great tour great time.

Dear Sirs
We would just like to say a big thank you to Mark [Ubsdell] who took us on our JTR tour yesterday evening [10th April 2008] A fantastic, interesting evening was had by all and I've had loads of comments on what a great tour guide he was. He really kept us all enraptured.

Good

I haven't been in the office this week , and I would just like to
say on behalf of Mount Rayleigh WI thanks very much for organising
the walk on 29th March 2008. Mark was really nice and informative
and although it rained all through the walk, and some of my ladies
were struggling a bit, they thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and I
have had lots of phone calls to this effect.
So I thought I would pass on their thanks to you.

Hi Joanne,
Just a quick e-mail to say how much we enjoyed last night's Jack the Ripper Tour [25th February 2008]
Lindsay [Lindsay Siviter] was a complete professional, so very friendly and so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the whole subject and she had us all well and truly hooked. She answered all our questions and even dramatised some of the characters, told us poems and sang us a song at the end! Which was perfect for our theatre group - we love a few theatrics!!

Thank you so much for changing our booking at such short notice. I have to say that your customer service does you great credit. When we phoned up we expected to be fobbed off, but instead we were treated with courtesy by your representative [Joanne Jones]. When we arrived for the rearranged tour [1st February 2008] your guide [Jenny Phillips] was equally professional and we had a great time whilst learning an awful lot about both Jack the Ripper and the history of the area. When we passed another tour that must have had 80 or more people on it we were so pleased we had booked with you. Thank you so much for taking so much trouble to provide such a good service and thank you especially for your considerate and understanding treatment. We'll most certainly join you again when we return to your wonderful city.

What a great night you gave us last night [16th January 2008]. It was so refreshing to find something in London that not only offered value for money but which also exceeded our wildest expectations. We had expected to be walked round quickly and just hear a little bit of Jack the Ripper history. What we got was a guide who not only knew the facts but was able to keep us gripped from the start to the finish. It really was an experience we won't forget and I would and will recommend your tour to anyone I know who is going to be visiting London.

Hi
Just wanted to say what a great night we had on the tour on Monday.
[17th December 2007] I really felt as though I was walking back in 1888 and the way our guide Mark described the streets and the murders really did have us looking nervously around. What a bitterly cold night it was last night [
13th December 2007] but I really must say a huge thank you to you for the Jack the Ripper tour you gave us. From the start you had us gripped with the full drama of what happened way back then and those first streets we went in to were fantastic. It was like being back in Jack's day. I particularly liked your touch when you asked us to close our eyes and smell the smoke from the house fires. When you then asked us to multiply that by the number of houses in London in the 19th century all burning coal it really did bring home to me how choking London must have once been. I hope the nights get warmer for you, but the warmth and enthusiasm of your presentation made for a great night no matter how cold.Best Wishes
Nicola Wright.

My girlfriend and I experienced the Jack the Ripper tour on
Sunday 9th December and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The actual walk was really
good and well planned, but what made it was the tour guide; Philip Hutchinson -
he led the group and relayed the facts of the Ripper case with such passion,
humour and expert knowledge. I'm sure we will be purchasing Philip's new book
The London of Jack the Ripper in the very near
future! If you could pass this message on to Philip I will be very grateful.
Thank you for a truly great evening.
With kind regards and wishing you a Happy Christmas,

Good Morning
Just to let you know that we all thoroughly enjoyed last night
[21st November 2007] Jack The Ripper Tour with Jenny. It certainly gave us a lot more insight and knowledge to a story that all of us have grown up with. Dear Richard
Took the tour with you last night
[8th November 2007] and wanted to say how informative and well presented it was. The Rolls trying to do a three point turn in the first narrow alley set things off nicely! The photographs are a great idea as they really helped build a picture of what it was like back then, and you really did treat us to a genuine insight into the Jack the Ripper murders that was both educational yet entertaining. Thanks for the curry suggestion at the end, the Sheraz was terrific.Cheers.

Thank you.

Richard,
What a great and entertaining, though gruesome evening
[30th September 2007]. I hadn't realised when booking that it was an anniversary night so to speak, so to actually stand on one of the murder sites on the anniversary of the event was, to say the least, a chilling experience. Thank you so much for your great knowledge and enthusiastic approach, you really had us looking over our shoulders a few times. I'm still smirking at your "put down" to the drunk who approached us half way through, he certainly went off with his head hung low, a priceless moment!!!!We will certainly see you again for your ghost walk on our next visit.
Until then keep the chills coming.

Hello,
I was recently visiting London and took one of Mr. Jones's tours. Can I just say that my friends and I had the best time? I really didn't know what to expect...but I was really impressed and had a few good laughs. Mr. Jones is a true entertainer and he really gave the first night of our month long Eurotrip a great kickoff. Yes, we flew into Heathrow at 10am and took the tour at 7pm - totally jetlagged - and still had an awesome time! Just wanted to say thanks a million!______________________________________________________________

Richard
Thanks for a great tour last night.
[MAY 22ND] It was interesting to see that many of the streets have survived unchanged as I had been led to believe that the area was all modern and that nothing had survived. That first alleyway was like a door back in time and the rat that ran behind you as you were talking about the sordid streets of 1888 was hilarious. Did you plan that?!!!! It was nice to have a guide who knew the subject and was able to chat with the group and field any of our questions. I can't wait to get a copy of your book when it comes out. [It will be published on June 2nd by New Holland in England and Barnes and Noble in America]. You are a great storyteller and really know how to hold a group spellbound.Best Wishes

Dear Richard,
Last Tuesday night (May 8) we had the pleasure of being part of one of your Jack
the Ripper walks. The woman who conducted the tour (I'm sorry but I don't
think she shared her name with us -
Richard
The walk was great. [May 2nd 2007] That first alley really gave me the creeps and then it just got better and better. I had read that none of the London from Jacks day survived so was expecting modern streets and a bit of a guided tour. What I got was buildings that had dates on them like 1886 and houses that you could just see how old they were. The route you followed really helped build the suspense and the way you told the story, no sensationalism but gripping, sympathetic and slightly spooky, had myself and the last of our group hooked. I was also glad to be part of a small more intimate group than those other tours we saw where you could see the people on it just weren't enjoying themselves. I would recommend your tour without hesitation.
Cheers Mate.
David Fraser.

Our tour guide

Sirs
After taking your Jack the Ripper tour on the evening of April 3rd 2007, we have nothing to say but compliments. Our tour guide was Jenny and she taught us everything about the subject of Jack the Ripper and even events that forensic experts discovered last year. She brought the story to life.
She told us everything about the subject, for example she told us the names of the victims, life living in those times in London and the people that spotted the victims deaths. In our opinion, your tour should be a must see for anyone visiting London and Jenny makes the experience even more enjoyable.
Sincerely
Evonne Mondor

I just wanted to write and say thank you for such an interesting walk last night (22/03/07). I've read lots about the Ripper and didn't think there would be much to learn, but Richard's depth of knowledge is amazing. The fact he still has such enthusiasm for the subject despite doing these walks in the English weather for 25 years is inspirational! I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in London's history.

Myself and two friends went on the Ripper walk on a very cold Tuesday 19th March 2007. Jenny, our guide was very good, and we all thoroughly enjoyed the walk. My friends both live and work in London (one right in the east end) yet we were shown places and alleys that they didn't know existed. Afterwards we spent an enjoyable few hours getting warmed up again in a local pub and discussing the evening's events!
Word of warning, go to
the loo and wrap up warm before you head out on the tour!!!
Thanks for a great night

Dear Sirs
I wanted to drop you a quick note to thank you and most importantly our guide, Colin for a most enjoyable and informative tour on Tuesday 20th March 2007.
As a totally new adventure, you are never quite sure how these sort of events will go down with guests but suffice it to say, judging by the comments at our buffet supper afterwards, every member of our party thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
This was very much down to our guide, Colin, who impressed everyone with his knowledge of the subject matter and his relaxed style of delivery.
I would be grateful if you could pass on my sincere thanks to him for making the evening go so smoothly.
Yours Sincerely

we have returned home from our walk tonight [4th March 2007] in the wet and rain with the urge to do the whole thing over again, we found it extremely interesting although I have been interested in it for quite some time, although I have my beliefs I do not rule out others after all I am not going to solve a mystery that has been going on for over 100 years in one wet evening. But I must say your lady guide [Jenny Phillips] was exceptional and very easy to understand, In fact I would not mind even becoming a guide myself now I know that with the exception of Bucks row and millers court that all streets are still there with their original names. thanks for a great time, I only live at the other end of the district line ...but it is nice to catch up with our local gruesome history...thanks once again...

Took the walk with your good selves on Wednesday [28th February 2007] and just had to write to say what a great time we all had. We were the group that arrived late and then ended up in completely the wrong place! One call to your office though and we were directed to where the tour was (the lady even phoned me back and stayed on the phone giving us step by step directions and didn't hang up until she'd got us to the tour.. fantastic service that goes way beyond what we expected). The guide [Jenny Phillips] welcomed us and then filled us in on what we'd missed as we were walking (again totally unexpected) and the tour was excellent. Creepy and informative and well presented. I would have no hesitation in recommending your company to anyone. From the professional way the booking process was handled, to the polite and efficient way we were handled on the night itself, you truly excelled at customer service. Well done and thanks.
Best Wises

Just wanted to say what a great tour you gave last night. [ 23rd February 2007] Our group really enjoyed it and on a personal note I have to say that I found your enthusiasm for the subject and your knowledge were beyond compare. The photos you passed around really added to it and the fact that you were happy to take questions and to stay behind afterwards and chat at length with an old ripper buff was greatly appreciated. I would have no hesitation in recommending your company to anyone who wants an entertaining and accurate introduction to the ripper.
All the best

Dear Sir/ Madam
We recently took part in the Jack the Ripper murder walk on 13th February 2007 with 26 year 10 pupils.
I wanted to write to thank you for the fascinating tour. Our guide [Philip Hutchinson] was absolutely brilliant with the pupils and pitched the talk right at them. I also wanted to thank you for your helpfulness and organisation during the planning of our trip.
The pupils found the talk intriguing, they are still talking about it, and it was extremely relevant to their coursework.
We hope to make this an annual trip and look forward to seeing you again in the future. I would certainly recommend the Jack the Ripper Walk with your company to other schools.
Yours Sincerely

Thanks for a great evening tonight [30th January 2007] on the Jack the Ripper tour and thanks for being able to answer all my questions. I've been studying the subject now for about 10 years and it was nice to find a guide [Richard Jones] who was able to answer my questions and who took the time to discuss my theories as we walked between the stops. Even though we both disagree on who did it (you might remember I am convinced it was Cutbush) it was great to be able to argue the point with someone who knew what I was talking about and who was able to hold his own!!! Once again thanks so much and should I make it back to London I'll most certainly look for a rematch!!
Best Wishes

Hi
Just got back from a great night on your Jack the Ripper walk. [26th January 2007] It was informative and entertaining and our guide Richard really knew his stuff. The photos of the area were a great idea as they really helped give an idea of what it was like back then. I was surprised that so many of the old houses have survived. I actually did another tour last year and we saw none of those places so I'm really glad that I found your company and got to see the real east end.
Thanks again.

Dear Jack the Ripper Tours Company
I am just writing to you in order to thank you for an excellent tour on the 6th of December. Both groups from the Westlands School really enjoyed their tour of the East end and it has certainly put them in good stead for completing their GCSE coursework on Jack the Ripper.
The two guides Jenny and Phillip were both informative and very interesting. I personally found Phillip to be a real showman who mixed both hard facts and gruesome recounts with dark humour and jolly banter. He was just what the students needed to keep them interested and entertained.
I will certainly be booking another tour with you next year and would request the same tour guides.
Thanks once again for your flexibility and professionalism.
Yours Sincerely
Mr. Craig Hallam

I can't thank you enough for the fabulous tour you gave my partner and I tonight . We are both Detective Supervisors from the LAPD and are in London attending a 3 week senior investigating officer training course with the London Met Police. We both found the tour fascinating and your knowledge and presentation were phenomenal. You were very enthusiastic and this tour was one of our favorite things we have done so far during the trip. We looked at the other groups doing tours with others and the people did not look like they were having any fun at all, in contrast to our group. Thanks again for a first class tour and we both highly recommend your tour

Thank you so much!
We were in London last winter and took the tour. It was wonderful! In fact it was memories of that great evening with the snow falling and the tour guide giving descriptive images of Victorian London that drew me back to your site. Attached are a couple of photos we took. I didn't get one of our guide [Jenny Phillips], a very interesting woman, who was a vivid story teller.
Great tour and a wonderful first night experience for our trip to Britain!
Thanks again!

tour on the 6th of Dec all of us had a thoroughly good time. All of us have
been interested for years in the Ripper murders and Philip excellently gave
us a greater understanding of the geography of the murders as well as
going into the the social history all of which was deeply interesting and
highly entertaining. We intend to come again Have a good xmas

My colleagues and I went on one of your tours last night
[October 26th 2006]
with Lindsay, and I just wanted to email
to say it was excellent. Quite possibly better than what I was expecting. I
felt Lindsay knew very much about the subject but did not present it in a
contrived manor, but really brought the case into the present day with some
new facts that I didn't know. I would definitely recommend your tour to
others. Keep up the good work.
I look forward to Lindsay's book.

A REVIEW OF RICHARD'S JACK THE RIPPER DVD UNMASKING JACK THE RIPPER HAS JUST APPEARED IN THE AMERICAN JOURNAL RIPPER NOTES. THE REVIEW WAS WRITTEN BY TOM WESCOTT AN ACKNOWLEDGED AND MUCH RESPECTED AUTHORITY ON THE JACK THE RIPPER CRIMES.
"As it stands now Unmasking Jack the Ripper is far and away the best independent documentary on the subject to have come along, and it even puts to shame many of the televised productions of years past... Unmasking really rests on the efforts of one man: Richard Jones. Familiar to viewers of the History Channels documentary on Jack the Ripper, Jones has been a relatively quiet contributor to the case until now. While many of us can be regularly found in the pages of journals such as the one you're holding...Jones has been in the field, conducting walking tours and amassing a terrific knowledge of the East End's history in general and the Jack the Ripper crimes in particular. As not only the writer and director of the film but also its host and narrator, the success of Unmasking rests solely on Jones' ability to convey this knowledge. Thankfully, he does so with exceptional skill, and the result is a fluid narration that is appropriately dramatic, even chilling at times, without stepping over the line into Cheeseville... You can now count one more voice among the ever growing chorus calling Unmasking Jack the Ripper one of the best, if not the best, Ripper documentaries in years..."

To whom it may concern:
This past Aug. 31 (the 118th anniversary of the first murder), a friend and I were fortunate to participate in the Jack the Ripper walk guided by Jenny Philips. I wanted you to know what a treasure you have in her. She was so interesting and her delivery of the information was as if she was telling a very important story to a loved one. I think the fact that she is very interested in the subject matter makes a huge difference too.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised that a company that took the care to create such a terrific and complete web site would hire only the best guides. As a frequent business traveller, I will certainly recommend your walk to my co-workers. You can read all there is to read about Jack the Ripper, but until you have "walked the walk," your knowledge is incomplete.

We were on your Ripper tour on September 1st (my son and I, from the U.S.) [Their guide was Jenny Philips] and it was great.........I didn't anticipate it to be so wonderful. Our guide's storytelling craft was superb, and the photos were not something we expected.
I've been telling everyone about it, so if and when they visit London, they'll join you for sure.

My husband, myself, our son and daughter participated in the Jack the Ripper Tour on Friday, August 4th, 2006. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and the time passed very quickly. Our tour guide, Lindsay Siviter, was very professional and a pleasure to meet and listen to. Her genuine knowledge of this subject was obvious and impressive. We have attended several "ghost" tours in the past and the best part of this tour was that it was accurate and factual, AND not just a theater student's performance of scary stuff!!
I would highly recommend this tour over any other.
Lindsay mentioned a forthcoming book - any info you can pass on to me would be very much appreciated.
Thanks again,

Dear Richard
I just had to say a huge thank you for your tour last night [26th July] It really was an eye opener and I must also applaud your ability to maintain your enthusiasm over two hours on such a hot and humid night well done. The tour was absolutely superb and your knowledge of the history of, not just the Jack the Ripper murders, but of the history of the area was really impressive. As I mentioned we went on one of the rival tours two years ago and were so disappointed by the guides lack of knowledge (he even got the date of one of the murders wrong). You tour more than made up for it and I can't wait to read your book when it comes out. Once again thanks.
Ron Mazarti.

Morning,
Just a very quick line to say THANK YOU for a very enjoyable evening last
Thursday (20th July) We booked at the very last minute as we had a few hours
spare before our friend flew to Canada, therefore we had no idea what to expect.
What we had was an excellent evening. Just as I thought I knew London, I
discovered yet another side to it. As a Sergeant with the Metropolitan Police it
made me smile to hear how useless everybody thought they were at the time. I
think history repeats itself; Commissoner getting slating by the press, concerns
from the population about immigrants committing crime etc etc. etc.
Anyway, Thank you again, I look forward to bringing a few friends along another
evening.
Best regards,
C.P.

RICHARD JUST WON THE ULTIMATE STAMP OF APPROVAL FOR HIS JACK THE RIPPER PRESENTATION. STEPHEN RYDER WHO RUNS THE WEBS MOST IN DEPTH RESOURCE ON THE JACK THE RIPPER MURDERS WWW.CASEBOOK.ORG HAS POSTED THE FOLLOWING COMMENTS ON THE CASEBOOK WEBSITE.
I'm not a big fan of Ripper documentaries, admittedly, but I have to say that Richard's is certainly one of the best - if not the best - I've ever seen. None of the same old tired clichés you get in the run-of-the-mill docs I'm sure we're all familiar with. I'd recommend it.

Whilst a contributor to Ripper Notes one of the leading journals on Ripper studies had this to say about Richard's knowledge of the case and presentation skills.
Richard,
I just wanted to congratulate you on a DVD that way exceeded my expectations. You are an exceptional writer and orator. You obviously went all out on this DVD... I understand you have a book coming out on the Ripper case. I cannot wait to read it. No doubt it will be one of the most well-written ever on the case. If I can free up some time, I'll be writing a review of your DVD for Ripper Notes. Expect some serious praise. I thought you were very well-balanced on your handling of the case. While you clearly prefer Kosminski (or someone like him) you didn't force that view down the audience's throats. I could go on, but I'll stop here. You've made a real achievement here and I'm looking forward to more output from you.
P.S. Do you read Ripper Notes? If not, you should! :)

Absolutely brilliant Richard. My colleagues have asked me to pass on their thanks for the Jack the Ripper tour last night [23rd May] Your knowledge of the case and of the history of the area was truly impressive and it was nice that the group wasn't of large as some of the other tours we passed as we went through the streets. It was also nice to see that you didn't sensationalise the subject in any way and the solution you presented us with at the end truly did make sense.

I went on the tour Saturday [13th May 2006] and I have to say it really did open my eyes. It was nice that you took the time to get to know the group before setting off so that we felt we were being shown round by - I hope you wont be offended by this - an English uncle, [no offence taken but cousin would have been more flattering! Richard] as my son put it! The photographs were a great idea as they showed us what it was like round here, it was interesting that a lot of the places still look the same as they did. Your presentation was superb and the way you alternated your voice really did create a mood. I was particularly impressed by the way you recited the letter word for word without any reference to notes. It was obvious to us that you really enjoy your work and thanks for taking the trouble to stay behind afterwards and "discuss" the Patricia Cornwall theory.

Just got back from a fantastic evening [6th May 2006] on your Jack the Ripper walk and wanted to say a huge thanks to our guide Jenny for really creeping us out!! The story was well told, the pictures she showed us really helped fill in the blanks for the buildings that are no longer there, and those first six or so streets really had something about them that made me think all sorts of horrible things might have happened in them. Thanks again for a great night.

Richard the tour was great. [22nd April 2006] You have really got us thinking now and my son has been doing his own research into the case. We arrived on the tour thinking we knew a reasonable amount about jack the Ripper but from the start, when you told us about the riots the murders caused, we realised that we actually knew very little. I also liked the idea of being taken around in a small group. When that group that looked like a badly managed protest march went past with what must have been about 150 people on it, we were able to give them a smug grin! And when some of them tried to join your tour and you told them they should have booked the grin grew bigger! Well done and keep up the good work.

Just wanted to say thanks for a great tour last night [19th March] it was an absolute joy to listen to a true professional at work and, despite the cold, my family and I thoroughly enjoyed the evening. It was great when you turned through that arch and that old alleyway suddenly appeared. I for one thought Id time warped back to 1888 and I heard the rest of the group's reactions when they saw it and it really was a fantastic start of the evening. Our guides [Richard Jones] knowledge and enthusiasm shone through from the outset and when we passed that huge group (it looked to be about 200 people) we were so glad that we'd booked and were part of a much smaller and more intimate group. The photographs were a great idea and they really did help give us the idea of what the area was like in 1888. A thumbs up to you!

Loved every minute despite the cold. You mentioned that you had a book coming out. When is it published? Dear Jack the Ripper People
Many thanks for a superb tour this evening [12th January]. Having watched various films I turned up convinced that it was the government that did the murders, but after your tour I am now with you that it had to be some-one who lived in the area. I have to say our guides [Richard Jones] knowledge was extraordinary and the way he answered all the questions thrown at him was most impressive. He did say he was writing a book about Jack the Ripper when is it available. [December 2006] Hope to see you on one of your ghost walks in the near future.

Dear Richard,
This is a belated email just to thank you for going ahead with the walk after the bombings. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, myself in particular as you took us through an area I where I used to work many years ago.
My daughter ... was
particularly thrilled as she is a great fan of Most Haunted so to see you in
person was especially exciting. Anyway
most of returning to London the day after all the mayhem made us feel better in
as much as we too were determined that life must go on and that no one should be
allowed to stop us continuing with our lives regardless.
London means a lot to us, it is our City and birthplace and no one should be allowed to destroy it.
Once again thank you and hope to see you again in future on another walk.

The following letter was published in Group Leisure Magazine.
Dear Sir,
I would like to tell you about the Historical Walks which we have been on. We used Richard Jones, whom we found on the internet, as our guide.
We have run free trips with him and we find him to be charming, knowledgeable and an extremely hard worker from the start of the trip to the end.
We intend to run another three this year and most certainly with Richard Jones. In fact, word has got out abut Richard's trips so whenever one is advertised on our weekly news, we always fill a full 48-seater.
I would love you to be able to print this in Group Leisure as I feel that Richard deserves all the praise he can get - but then he might get fully booked if the news gets out!

Thankyou for your excellent contribution to our show about the River Thames. It was a rare treat to interview someone who is not only knowledgeable but also animated and articulate. I'd like to think of us hooking up again as we gradually get around to covering other aspects of London history. Austin Vince. Television Presenter.

".. the object of this letter is to thank you for a really marvellous night... the guide [Jenny Philips] was par excellence. Her knowledge, humour and personality made history a fascinating experience and I'm sure all the participants that night would agree that she is a gem..."

" I just wanted to say that the tour I had on Friday at 9pm... [with Lindsay Siviter] was really excellent. it really exceeded my expectations... I was expecting to just be told a lot of facts and theories on what had happened it was so interesting to also be told of how some of the information was found out and also how new some of it was was quite fascinating. it was really fantastic to have someone telling us about it who had such a passion for the subject and who is researching so much into it themselves. I would definitely recommend it to anyone!" Jon Edwards
