EATING BEFORE OR AFTER YOUR JACK THE RIPPER WALK
Many of our clients like to either start or end their Jack the Ripper tour with a meal and we are constantly asked to make suggestions as to suitable venues.
Fortunately the area where are tour takes place is well served with a wide variety of restaurants and eateries that offer a wonderful mix of multi cultural cuisines. For a start the area contains some of the finest and best value curry houses in London, and Brick Lane offers a rich and diverse selection of restaurants. Then there is the Happy Days Fish and Chip restaurant on Goulston Street, five minutes from the start of the tour and a great favourite with your guides. If you want to go for the original British comfort food then cast your sights on Spitalfields market and the Sausage and Mash cafe which offers a mouth-watering selection of over 20 varieties of sausages.
If you want to eat on Brick Lane before the tour then please arrive at the restaurant by 5.45pm at the latest to ensure you have time to eat your meal and then make it back to the start of the tour. The same applies for the Sausage and Mash Cafe. As for the Happy Days Fish restaurant, you'll probably be safe arriving there at 6.15pm, although your meal will be rushed. Happy Days also do a take away menu, so you could always get your Fish and Chips and then bring them round to the start of the tour. You will also find a Burger King and a KFC right by Aldgate East Station where our Jack the Ripper tour begins.
HERE ARE A FEW SUGGESTIONS
The Happy Days Fish Restaurant. 44 Goulston Street. Telephone. 020 7377-9815.
PLEASE NOTE HAPPY DAYS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED ON SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS.
Traditional Fish and Chips are on offer at this restaurant located on the lower Floor of Wentworth Model Dwellings. It was in the doorway that is now the take away counter that Jack the Ripper left his only clue!!!! We stop outside the doorway in the course of the walk and you can get yourself a warming portion of Fish and Chips if you so desire. They also have a sit down restaurant. If you are eating here before the tour please tell them that you need to get to the tour for 6.50pm. To reach them come out of the Toynbee Hall Exit of Aldgate East Underground. Turn right along Whitechapel High Street and go second right into Goulston Street. Keep ahead, and the restaurant is a few minutes along on the right.
The Sheraz Indian & Bangladeshi Restaurant. 13 Brick Lane. Telephone. 020 7247-5755
This restaurant is located at the junction of Brick Lane and Thrawl Street. The building was formerly the Frying Pan Public House and, as you will hear on the tour, this pub featured in the Jack the Ripper story so it is connected with your tour!! A great place to just dine and chat as a couple or small group of friends the restaurant also has seating for over 40 customers so it is ideal for office groups looking for a nice meal after their tour. The food is delicious, the service fast and friendly and the Sheraz is a great favourite with your guides. They Also have a website at www.sheraz.co.uk.
S & M Cafe. 48 Brushfield Street. 020 7247-2252.
Occupying an 18th century building opposite Spitalfield's Market this restaurant offers you a great selection of sausages and filling mash potato and onion gravy (vegetarian options are available.) They have an upstairs room that can be booked for larger groups whilst couples and groups of friends can enjoy the ambience in the downstairs cafe room. A great venue and about a ten minute walk from the start of the tour. Click here to visit their website.
REMEMBER THAT IF YOU ARE EATING BEFORE THE TOUR PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU LEAVE YOURSELF ENOUGH TIME TO EAT AND GET TO THE START OF THE WALK.
