QUALITY AND RELIABILITY SINCE 1982. WITH THE JACK THE RIPPER TOUR THAT'S HEARD NOT HERD. CLICK HERE FOR JACK THE RIPPER WALK DATES OF OPERATION WHY DO WE ASK YOU TO BOOK IN ADVANCE? Because we are the only Jack the Ripper Tour in London That Limits the Number of Participants to a sensible number of around 36 - 39 People. Many of the Jack the Ripper Tours in London tell you that you don’t have to book for their walks and advertise that you can “just turn up.” Several of them even inform you proudly that they have no red tape, and that all you have to do to go on their Jack the Ripper Walk of London, is arrive at their designated meeting point and away you go. Whilst this sounds wonderfully bohemian, and delightfully free-spirited, the reality can be anything but. SO BEFORE YOU "JUST TURN UP" JUST THINK ON THIS. Imagine how you would feel if you “just turned up” for your Jack the Ripper Tour of London, and at the meeting point you found a huge and unsightly herd of 100, 200 or even 300 people, all preparing to be taken on the Jack the Ripper walk of London with JUST ONE GUIDE? In all honesty, would you truly relish the prospect of being herded through the streets of East London as part of such an unwieldy multitude? Do you truly believe that if you ended up stuck at the back of the group you would be able to hear a word that the guide was saying? And do you really think that you would get any of the ambience of the darker recesses of Whitechapel and Spitalfields on a tour that consists of such a huge number of participants? How free-spirited and bohemian would that make you feel? Unfortunately, since the Jack the Ripper Tour is one of the most popular walks in London, this is the situation that faces many people who pitch up at a pre- designated meeting point. They are expecting to enjoy a slightly macabre and chilling evening on a Jack the Ripper walk around the creepier streets of London, but instead find themselves hurried round the area in an unsightly group of 75, 100, 200 or even 300 participants, all struggling to keep up with and hear just one guide. The fact is it is not fair on you the client to expect you to wish to be herded round in such a huge and unwieldy group. And make no mistake the huge groups are the norm not the exception. BUT DON'T JUST TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT. Of course all this could well be sour grapes grapes on our part, and you have no way of knowing that it isn't unless you have actually found yourself crammed onto such a tour. Fortunately, thanks to the internet several people who have indeed "just turned" up for a huge Jack the Ripper tour of London, have felt the need to make their dissatisfaction public and have posted warnings on various travel forums, so that others will not have to experience the same disappointment. Below is a posting on the London Forum of the TripAdvisor website. The member who posted it, Poppa, actually joined one of the large tours in February 2004. You can find the full posting (we have edited the posting because Poppa actually names names), on the Trip Advisor website. Here's what Poppa had to say:- " I can only comment on the Jack the Ripper walk… I took it in February 2004, it was most certainly a cattle drive and you could not hear the guide. I wrote to the owner of [the company] and his eloquent reply did acknowledge that it is always packed, but they do nothing to alleviate the crowded situation... [This Company] is seriously oversubscribing their walks. Our tour had a minimum of 75 people and the group had a difficult time hearing the guide. I'm going to give them another try (maybe) but friends have just returned and said the oversubscribing is rampant. Caveat Emptor!" Here is another posting, this time from the Virtual Tourist website. It was posted by Tom from Madison USA, who Just like Poppa, "just turned up" for a Jack the Ripper Tour of London and, well we'll let him tell you what he found:- "I tried doing in [sic] on a friday night, June 17th i think. About 100 people showed up. There was some guy holding up a book surrounded by hordes of people, couldn't hear a thing. I'm sure they do something to compensate for the crowd and hearing him, but not sure what. I passed and went out for a pint..." Notice that Tom and Poppa couldn't hear the guide when there were only 75 and 100 people on their Jack the Ripper tour. What chance would they have had if, as is often the case, the group size had reached 200 or even 300 people? It just isn't fair on clients, and it most certainly isn't fair on local residents whose lives are being made a misery by these huge and unwieldy cattle drive Jack the Ripper Tours of London trudging past their houses night after night after night. THAT IS WHY WE ASK YOU TO BOOK IN ADVANCE. We ask you to book in advance for our Jack the Ripper tour of London for several reasons. Firstly, and most importantly, we don't want to be like other London Walks and herd you round in an unsightly and un-manageable cattle drive that can number more than 200 people, all of whom are struggling to keep up with and hear just one guide. OUR TOURS ARE HEARD NOT HERD. We limit the number of participants to a sensible number of around 36 to 39 people, which we consider fair and manageable. We believe this is better for you, better for local residents, and most certainly better for your guide. A SENSIBLE WAY TO OPERATE A LEGITIMATE BUSINESS Secondly, operating a booking system is a professional way to conduct a legitimate business. If you turn up at an underground station and hand over your money to a guide who insists on taking cash in hand, you have very little comeback should your tour prove disappointing, and there are some absolutely awful Jack the Ripper Tours of London out there. So when you are planning to take a Jack the Ripper walk be sure that you choose one that is led by experts who give you accurate and current information that is:- HEARD NOT HERD CLICK HERE FOR THE JACK THE RIPPER WALK.
