TREVOR BOND – GUIDE PROFILE
Trevor Bond is a hugely respected name in the field of Ripperology.
He was born in South London to a family with long and established roots in the East End of London, and, as a consequence, he grew up hearing constantly about the lore and life of the area that had been terrorised by Jack the Ripper.
It was hearing about the East End throughout his childhood that inspired Trevor to develop and early interest in the streets of Whitechapel and Spitalfields; an interest that has remained undiminished with the passing years and which has stayed with him into adulthood.
He has, in his own words, “been fascinated by London history and by stories of crimes” for as long as he can remember, and his enthusiasm and passion for his subject becomes apparent the moment you meet him.
THE DEFINITIVE JACK THE RIPPER
When it comes to his contribution to the field of Ripperology Trevor, like all our guides, boasts an impressive track record.
He was, for example, an historical researcher on the acclaimed Channel Five documentary The Definitive Jack The Ripper, in the course of which research he had access to numerous source documents on the case.
This gave him an unrivalled insight into the way in which the police investigation was handled; into the everyday lives of the victims of Jack the Ripper; and into the social history of the area in which the crimes actually occurred.
AN IN DEMAND CONFERENCE SPEAKER
As a result of this in depth research, Trevor found himself in demand as a speaker at international true crime conferences, and he has lectured to audiences from all over the world on the intricacies of the Whitechapel murders – in the course of which lectures he skilfully wove together the known facts to present his audiences with what has been described as “a breathless blow by blow account” of twelve weeks that rocked and shocked the Victorian world to its core.
THE A TO Z OF VICTORIAN CRIME
In 2016, Trevor co-authored the encyclopaedic tome The A to Z Of Victorian Crime, which one reviewer described as being:-
“A great read and reference book for anyone interested in Victorian crime at any level. Even those with a good knowledge and a keen interest in the subject will find something new to them in here. Well written and researched by trusted crime historians I recommend this book to anyone as a starting point for a journey into the world of Victorian crime.”
A PASSIONATE AND ENTHUSIASTIC GUIDE
Those who have heard him speak on the subject, or have joined him on one of his Jack the Ripper tours, have felt moved to comment on how passionate he is about the subject and how he seamlessly managed to weave together the various strands of the case in such away as to make the subject come vividly to life.
It is, of course, this talent for making a subject spring to life that is the mark of a successful guide, and this, along with Trevor’s in depth knowledge on all aspects of Victorian crime, policing and history, help make a walk with him, through the hinterland of Whitechapel and Spitalfields, a truly memorable and thoroughly enjoyable experience.
