JOURNEY BACK TO VICTORIAN LONDON

Using original Victorian images, that really do capture the mood and the people of the era in which the murders occurred, Richard – who is one of the World’s leading experts on the case – will take you through the major events of the autumn of terror, when a lone murderer held the people of the East End London in a grip of terror.

CONDUCTED ON YOUTUBE

The tour is available on our YouTube Channel – so it can be watched from any location you choose – at home, at work, on the tube, or even by going to the locations ad then watching it on your mobile phone.

A WALK WORTH INVESTIGATING ®

Richard’s free tour will actually take you through other murders besides the five that many people believe were the work of the killer who became known as Jack the Ripper.

So your journey with him will begin in April, 1888, when a murder on one of the East End’s worst streets, alerted people to the brutality of life in the Victorian “Abyss.”

Then, in early August, 1888, another murder in a similarly notorious backstreet sent a ripple of genuine unease through the area, as people began to think that something untoward was happening in the district of Whitechapel.

A few weeks later, on August 31st, 1888, that unease gave way to outright panic, when the body of Mary Nichols was found in Buck’s Row, Whitechapel, and Jack the Ripper’s reign of terror had well and truly begun.

Using high-definition video footage of the streets as they are today, and eerie black and white photographs that show the area as it was in 1888, Richard will skilfully manoeuvre you between the 21st and 19th centuries as he outlines the terrible events in chronological order and tells you of the twists and turns of the police investigation that endeavoured to catch the miscreant responsible and avenge his victims.

SEE DOCUMENTS AND PRESS CUTTINGS

Richard will also show you documents from the case, from the newspaper clippings of the articles that sensationalised the case, and helped bring it to the attention of the world at large, to the sinister letter, signed “Jack the Ripper”, that gave the killer the name that turned the murders into an international phenomenon and ensured that this series of crimes became one of history’s greatest mysteries.

LEARN ABOUT THE LIVES OF THE VICTIMS AND THE PEOPLE

Richard will also tell you about the lives that the victims, and thousands like them, lived in an area that the American author, Jack London, would later describe as “The Abyss.” You will learn about the common lodging houses – “dens of vice and villainy” as they were often described in the newspapers.

JOIN THE POLICE INVESTIGATION

You will also hear about the police officers who were set the unenviable task of tracking the killer through one of Victorian London’s most criminally active and densely populated neighbourhoods.

From Inspector Frederick Abberline, the man who hunted the perpetrator on the ground in the district, to Sir Charles Warren, whose handling of the case was the subject of immense criticism in all quarters, and whose controversial order to erase a scrawled message on a Whitechapel wall has led to all manner of conspiracy theories. Richard will even tell you about the two senior police officers who both stated that Jack the Ripper had been caught, and one of them even went so far as to name him.

But who was their suspect…. join Richard to find out!
