John Bennett’s Jack the Ripper Tour

They say that a video presentation is worth a thousand words, or was that a picture! Either way I recently shadowed John Bennett as he led a group of eager participants around the East End on his Jack the Ripper tour.

I only used an ordinary hand-held camera so this little film isn’t the usual quality of the many films we will be making available on our dedicated Jack the Ripper TV Channel, but it gives you the opportunity to get the feel for the local streets where the Jack the Ripper Murders took place.

It captures something of John’s knowledge, not to mention his dry wit. So I hope you enjoy this little look at a Jack the Ripper Walk in progress. I’ll be putting a lot more of these videos up in the months ahead, so be sure to check back for regular updates.

You will see the Ten Bells Pub, the soaring tower of Christchurch Spitalfields, the site of Miller’s Court where Mary Kelly, Jack the Ripper’s final victim, was murdered, and Mitre Square where Catherine Eddowes was murdered. John also explains to the group how enigmatic Mary Kelly was. Indeed, we know less about her than about any other of the victims.

There is also a clip of John’s summing up, in which he discusses the various suspects whose names have, over the years, been put forward as possibly being Jack the Ripper.
