Edmund Reid Retires

On Sunday 8th March 1896, Lloyd’s Weekly Newspaper, reported on the retirement of a detective who had been much involved in the hunt for Jack the Ripper. That detective was Inspector Edmund Reid, and the article spoke with affection of the man who, at the time of his retirement, was the oldest Detective Inspector in the service. It also mentioned that he had enough medals for acts of bravery to “cover his breast.”
